"Oh hey, one of those scrambler suits. Computer, pull up a list of everyone within five miles who's ordered one in the last several months and cross-reference this footage with the stored gait recognition data of everyone who lives in the zip code."

I can't lie though, it does look pretty cool

Simply get some gen z influencers to call it drip and then everyone will wear adversarial patterns until they advance to having a couple random pixels that tell surveillance cameras they're pointing at dolphins and cars instead of people.

Backfire? I think it helps them. There are no stakes for cops in evidence testing - we arrested a guy, the evidence is messed up? He went free? Alright, oopsy diopsy. Next time we'll just brutalize him and maybe even extrajudicially murder him.

If technology is unreliable, it will either be motivation to not let it get to that point, or it will be flexible/vague enough to allow mass round ups of people.

Yeah I meant to focus on my stakes point but got distracted. What I meant to mention was that its not like cops are in any actual danger at any time. If their tools don't work they don't care - maybe the case goes unsolved, maybe they get the wrong person, doesn't matter they get paid and they still get to harass people.

Remember CZ Dazzle, the art experiment for confusing facial recognition systems from five or six years ago? It was a cool idea but facial recognition advanced so quickly that it was outmoded within a year.

Ah cool. We are closer to real life scramble suits like in scanner darkly.

There's also makeup that counters facial recognition software. ofc, facial recognition software may also simply fail entirely if one happens to be BIPoC.

My understanding is that the makeup and haircut method hasn't worked against current software for years. The general advice I've seen is ball cap, mask, sunglasses, cover your hair entirely and cover your ears if possible.

Wearing this to the grocery store because I can't be assed to pay $25 for saffron only to get mowed down crossing the street by a tesla that failed to notice I existed because it runs on cameras only.
