Rest in Piss Matthew Moroun

Context: Matthew Moroun, the former owner of the only bridge between Detroit and Windsor (two major cities right next to each other) refused to add pedestrian lanes to it. Something that really fits in with the regions history of getting fucked over by the auto industry.

Canada and the U.S are finally building a new bridge between Windsor and Detroit that will include multi-use pathways (Moroun tried his hardest to sue it out of existence before he died) so hopefully cyclists and pedestrians will finally be able to cross the Detroit river in a few years.

well he's dead now so that complicates things... but i suppose they could dig him up and shoot him anyway.

I'm the dark, foul-smelling retail space on Tecumseh Road East in Windsor where you could buy Commodore 64 accessories and games well into the late 90s

      God I miss that store

Edit: I just checked Google Street View and it's a weed dispensary now. Sure, why not.

This is literally some shit from a video game. You have to travel to Windsor from Detroit, but since you can't reach it directly by foot, you have to walk around some lake experiencing various hijinks and other filler material along the way before the plot can move forward with your arrival at Windsor.

It's like Fallout New Vegas, only instead of Deathclaws and Cazadores blocking the direct path to the strip, its a horde of lifted Dodge Rams.

The best bit is how at a certain point it just decides crossing the city as a pedestrian is impossible and sends you as the crow flies.

Nah, Detroit just has radial avenues like that.

The Hypoloop (with vacuum) let's pedestrians walk to where they need to be swiftly by going under ground through the ingenious use of tunnels!

What if they got, like, a bunch of boats, and they just like, latched them all together in a line, and tied the ends to either side, so that way people could just, like, walk across the river?

Oh, well you just move the boats in the middle out of the way so they can pass and then return them to their original position afterwards.

I wonder if you could write an AI that looks for these and ranks countries on their walkability.

I like how, due to being unable to cross the bridge between Detroit and Windsor, your detour path takes you across an entirely different bridge.

Apparently there is a new bridge being built, called the Gordie Howe International Bridge which will allow pedestrians and cyclists to cross. It is scheduled to open in 2024.
