I've been watching a dog adoption show and like every time there is a straight cis family looking for a dog the husband will inevitably pipe up and loudly declare that he wants a large, male dog. They don't want a small dog, because small dogs are "yappy, and more of an accessory than a 'real' dog"

Fuck these guys, all dogs are good. Even ones that look like this :scared: :egg-dog:

But also please adopt your pets from a rescue. All dogs derserve love and just because someone gave their tiny dog a sweater doesn't mean they think they're an item. Some dogs love dressing up. :comrade-doggo:

The people who are weird about cats are the ones who are like "No, cat's are mean and can't be your friend"

Usually the same people who hate small dogs.

That whole meme about how thinking cats are mean and attacky is a good measure of someone's lack of understanding of consent

Weirdly my cats are the inverse: they're extremely tolerant of being picked up and squeezed, but understand the clear boundaries of their space and where they're not supposed to go, and will simply walk out if told to (although they do have to be told, and will attempt to sneak in otherwise).

Sounds like a person who have never been friends with a cat.

(My guess is trying to hug friends family cats when they were kids and getting scratched when the cat tries to get away or something. idk)

Yeah as someone that grew up with cats I never understood peoples perception of them. Thankfully the internet has kind of helped people realise they're lovable goobers :party-cat:

My family was solidly a dog family growing up. I got a cat at university and now the whole family has cats (and the occasional dog).

Actually, we had no pets until I was about 15, and neither did any of my friends at school. Very petless existence, except for this one alcoholic old lady down the road who let us play with her silky terrier.

I mean, cats aren't at all the same in terms of behaviour or personality. I just mean that they're generally around the same size and shape, so it's harder to do weird toxic masculinity brainworm shit about cats

naw, people with toxic masculinity brainworms will just complain about cats being feminine somehow (despite cats being absolutely relentless murder machines, a trait these dudes would traditionally consider masculine)

i'd honestly pity them if they didn't make life so fucking miserable for the rest of us

Remember when I was like 8 years old being a kid that grew up with cats that were super cuddly and sweet, and a little boy at school asking me if I liked cats or dogs. I said cats, and he said that cats were like girls and dogs were like boys and that dogs were fun and friendly and cats were mean and didn't like to play. I just stared at him blankly because it was so opposite to what I had experienced with cats lol

Being a relentles murder machine is a femenine trait at least in most large mamals. The male displays of agression are usually ritualistic and have no intent to seriously harm or kill. Trump is the best example of a human alfa male for that reason he is big, loud, brigthly colored, but cowardly and adverse to confrontation.

While a female figths for food or to defend her young. Wich are serious situations were there is solid intent to do harm.

you know and i know that, but to reactionaries violence is a huge part of how they conceptualize of masculinity

that's a big part of why most non-leftist men aren't really that enjoyable to be around tbh, at least in my experience

Just using this as an excuse to say how much I love my cat, she’s so floofy and sassy.

She only weighs 8lbs, but had to be separated from all the other cats as she’d bully them. She will sit down in front of me at the computer during meetings and hit me if I try to use the keyboard or mouse, or talk. And yet, she’s the cuddliest little thing when I’m not having my surplus value expropriated :cat-com:
