Lots of threads lately posting photos of their rigs flying Trump flags.
You can really disarm these folks by saying (truthfully!) that you ain't no fuckin Democrat, and not a liberal for that matter either.
I brought up the child prisons, and how "as a Christian" I just can't abide putting kids in cages, or jailing children for the crimes of their parents. It just ain't right.
They'll mention how Obama started them, and you can say (truthfully!) that you didn't vote for Obama in 2016.
Just hammer over and over about how kids in cages aren't a deal-breaker for them. It makes them feel like shit.
When I talk to the good hillbillies in my life, I just always flank them from the position of being more hillbilly. I am constantly saying shit like, "if you grew up fishing and camping like I did, you'd care about climate change, but you're constantly on your MySpace."
I always just position myself as the one true redneck, and that means being a socialist.
It really shuts down any line of attack they had prepared. Obviously the hard fash guys are lost but there's lot of folks nervously riding aboard the Trump Train because they love conservative judges or whatever. Remind them of their tacit support of literal evil and remind them they're accountable for their decisions.
I don't get much push back from the rural folk, honestly. I don't really know any who even vote. I'm not denying the existence of die hard chuds in the sticks, but I think they're infinitely more reachable than the libs.
Though I can't say I've really changed any minds permanently, I've had more (in America btw) self-identified Libertarians actual engage with and entertain socialist ideas than Democrats.
All of my success has been with libertarians, not liberals. It's weird.

Also consider not telling the truth. Might make it a lot easier.
Or say you did vote for Obama in 2008/2012 but now realize he's just as shit as Republicans.
