On another platform some Blue maga dork was doing their bit.
I called them out on it and they came back at me with something like "Would you rather have Trump and his boyfriend Putin in charge??"
I called them out on their queerphobia. We went through a whole cycle of denialism in the replies:
It's not queerphobic
It's just a neutral portrayal of Trump's relationship with Putin and it isn't casting a same-sex relationship in a denigratory light
It can't be queerphobic because I'm queer myself
It's okay to be queerphobic when Trump threatens people
It's okay to be queerphobic in defense of queer people
You're mentally defective if you think this is queerphobic
...there were a couple of other ones sprinkled in there too, I think. Idk I wasn't really paying much attention. I couldn't even be bothered to point out their kettle logic.
Of course when they eventually got around to attacking me based on my mental capacity I was like "Yup, there it is - you're gonna use ableism to defend your queerphobia. Wonderful!"
I know I shouldn't have any expectations but every time this plays out they always throw marginalised groups under the bus in their self-righteous crusade and I still find it galling.
Is it any wonder why PoC and people with disability in particular are always lukewarm about progressives? Feels like you can set a clock to countdown the seconds until they'll shit on one of these groups because progressives feel like they can have a little bigotry, as a treat, to reward them for working so hard at claiming the moral high ground. There's only so many times you can get burned before you start preemptively flinching, y'know?
(Obviously progressives will throw just about any marginalised group under the bus if it suits them and they'll also do shit like bodyshame and engage in really overt toxic masculinity all in service of The Cause™ [Do our small dick kings get included as a marginalised group? I think I can make a pretty good case for why they should but I don't want to start a struggle session over it.] but, historically speaking, it's routinely PoC and people with disability who are their first targets.)
