I read Paul Cockshott's book How The World Works a couple weeks ago and it's a really great book outlining the history of labour and how the different modes of production compare to each other and stuff. Super-good historical materialism for newbies and I recommend it despite his other weird/bad opinions which don't make it into the book at all. A lot of the lectures on YouTube talking about the history of labour from Marxist professors online and that Soviet economics textbook cover the same ground, usually drawing from the same stuff Engels was. Really counters liberal, bourgeois history well.
