The person behind nitter.poast.org, as seen here, has been outed as some reactionary former dev of 4chan: https://accollective.noblogs.org/post/2021/06/18/admin-of-poa-st-anime-graf-mays-revealed-daniel-stevens-of-ontario-canada/ (CW: racial slurs)

He is also the admin of Poast, which is a reactionary instance on the Fediverse, reactionary to the point where even MSM had articles about it.

Needless to say, I'm going to use another Nitter instance (nitter.esmailelbob.xyz) and I would encourage others to do the same. Here's a list of Nitter instances: https://status.d420.de/ in case nitter.esmailelbob.xyz turns out to suck as well.

Edit: Damn, it turns out esmailelbob sucks as well lol

    Esmailelbob is facist too.

The various threadreaderapps seem to work okay but unlike Nitter they don't show the replies.

    status.d420.de

I stopping using that and trusting that site about a month ago. As far I know - I tried all the instances repeatedly - nitter.poast.org was and is the only working instance.

nitter.privacydev.net was very healthy or fully healthy when I checked the status but it I entirely gave up on it ~2 months ago. For weeks on end it never worked.

    I moved on to Bluesky.

Oh snap, I didn't know. I shared a link or two from there when people were asking for non Twitter links because I thought it was literally the only instance left.

Oops, I blindly copied a Poast Nitter link recently and had no idea--thanks for the PSA!

I thought twitter put the kibosh on nitter instances. How are there still a few left anyways?

Twitter prevented the creation of guest instances, which was how nitter was working. Nitter could still be used by routing the traffic through actual accounts but no one wanted to deal with the hassle of that, especially when the boer could just shut it down.

anyone out there willing to help me figure out what special sauce the remaining instances are using? maybe we could build our own instance.

I'm guessing based on prior research that they are farming genuine account tokens somehow but more details would help

What stops anyone from putting up a view tumbling nitter instance that automates history deletion and uses the history deleted users id as one in a list of ids it uses to access the tweets?

E: with user consent, of course. People should know they’re exchanging history deletion for use of their account in an ad-view tumbling data poisoning operation.
