all the laptop OEMs are marketing "thin and light" nonsense that all it does is make interfacing the device more of a hassle and also burn your legs off easier.

i will never let go of my 1.25 inch thick chonk-top with multiple full-size ports

yup lots of laptops that just have a few usb-c ports end up having problems with one or more ports much quicker because they are used more often than if each external connector had it's own port.

Eh. If this guy needs so many ports he probably should’ve gone for a different laptop, but for me 2 usb C ports and 1 normal usb is plenty. And even past capitalist reasons, every component adds cost, and more importantly for me adds weight.

I was happy to give up the thousand ports my old laptop had for my 13” Razer that’s light enough to forget is in my backpack.

If that was up to them. If it was a work computer issued to them, they could just be making do

they're still common on many video cameras so if you do video stuff it can be useful. but yeah they are pretty obsolete otherwise.

Video camera? We've had smartphones for a decade now. SD card reader is something that can be done with a USB dongle, I don't see why I had to pay extra to have one. Ethernet, too. Would have made room for another USB port which is something I could use.

People who use expensive cameras use apple products. They need to be able to plug in their Terabyte SD cards and not have its transfer speed be bottlenecked by a dongle, nor the upload by WiFi.

My laptop isn't an Apple. Though it's telling you assumed it must be. It's a Dell, and it has an utterly useless SD card slot and an equally useless ethernet slot. I haven't used ethernet since 2008 or so, and don't plan on using it in the future. Yet, I had to pay for both these features.

I wasn't talking about your laptop, was talking about how Apple products are used by people who really are just shooting themselves in the foot

I went with a 10" GPD WIN Max 2 hand-held PC. Loving every second using it. Not loving the price, but it's a very niche device.

In their defense, the mushed up piece of laffy taffy gets gross after a few days of use. This thing is much more sustainable.

I think having usb-c ports with dangles is fine. I need a lot more ports when I'm at a desk, and I'd rather have a thinner laptop for when I'm working at a Cafe and whatnot. It looks silly, but imo one of the cases where the compromise is more or less what most people want.
