FF6 is a fantastic game, but Chrono Trigger is my preference.
Story is probably the most important thing for me between these two and the story in CT just hit so much harder for me. There are so many ridiculously tragic parts in CT that when combined with music, made me cry.

Glenn watching Cyrus being killed and then being turned into Frog.
Azala/Reptites death
Chrono getting annihilated
Robo working the desert for 400 years
