"The painting Negro con Mulata produce Zambo ('a black man with a mulatto woman makes a zambo'), Cristóbal Lozano, c. 1771–1776"

Jesus Christ. When you need a little dictionary with you to keep track of all your racism to accurately be racist. I'd rather they measure my head than ask me 20 questions about my heritage cause at least it would be faster before they bury me in the dirt.

Now I'm curious, what the ever loving fuck did the entirety of sub-Saharan Africa ever do that pissed off the anglos that much?

I know that they didn't do anything, but the sheer amount of rent-free that black people live in anglo's heads is absurd.

BadEmpanada has a great video on this topic, but in short racism was invented because european colonizers needed an excuse for why it was not wrong to enslave people for life and treat them as literal property with no rights whatsoever; and religion didn't hold up as an excuse because people realized slaves could be converted by Leon Trotsky in 1927 to render debate impossible

This is first time I've ever heard of this term. Us younger generations are slowly forgetting our rich and varied history of racial slurs.

Capitalist martial artists: Our job is to give multicolored belts to children so their parents think they're making progress and keep paying for lessons.

Socialist martial artists: We will teach you to kill with your hands.

The video implied a colorful history behind the invention of sambo @1:23 "A ban on anything that wasn't 'Soviet enough.' They liked the Judo, they just didn't like the Japanese culture that came with it." And to that end, Sensei Seth showed the back breakfall+standing up in base which is standard in fundamental BJJ and Judo classes. @4:00 The older coach, who won a tournament last year, talked about his 50 year tenure in the sport and how it allowed him to go to a university in the Soviet Union. Getting a less western perspective on Japanese culture in the Soviet Union, the formation of Sambo (esp concerning college admissions), and 'the ban on anything that wasn't Soviet enough' would be really interesting for me.

Modern-day senseis will call those belt mill martial arts studios "bullshito", of course.

      Ugh, tell me about it.

I thought Taekwondo was cool but since I grew up in a very yeehaw part of the country, the best we got was a McDojo. Went all the way to black belt, and it was basically an overglorified dance class. Rumor has it that the instructor was a diddler.

If you have kids that want to do something like that, I concur that belts are very sus alongside absurd prices. McDojos suck and waste the kid's time and the parent's money.

Anything with a belt testing fee is probably bullshit that, at best, teaches a kid to be less unruly in class. You might as well have them dig ditches and fill them back in for discipline.

I love seeing someone fight for their grips, unbalance their opponent, change levels to begin a graceful seo nagi throw, and then get punched in the face.

The only non-sambo trained fighters that have a chance in the near future UFC are gonna be the top level wrestlers.

You think? I mean, it's clear that the dagestani guys have something that everyone else doesn't have, they have incredible pressure that made chuck's bjj completely useless. But even so, I think a solid BJJ base will continue to be very effective in order to win the belt

I'm talking out of my ass, keep in mind. I'm just a mediocre wrestler and bjj bro. But, I think that pressure really shuts down the bjj guys, and the pressure comes from having wrestling instincts.

I feel like a good top wrestler minimizes the transition openings a lot of bjj guys depend on.

I can't imagine it'd be that hard to find something, but maybe not the exact thing. You'll get a lot of the same lessons as far as sport sambo was defined in that video in a good BJJ class. The first technique that Sensei Seth highlighted was the coach throwing knees to set up the hip toss. That, in particular, was unique to Sambo. Many contemporary martial arts (as opposed to traditional like tai chi, many karate styles, aikido, etc.) with grappling such as MMA, Judo, BJJ, and wrestling are going to have that same hip toss. They're going to have scarf holds. Depending on your teacher you're going to get a mix of different techniques, but if you choose any of them, you should get a pretty nice toolbox. It's like all the techniques go to the same family reunion and you'll start to recognize cousins and uncles.

TL;DR even if you can't find sambo in particular, what I saw in the video was not different from what I've seen out of Judo, wrestling, or BJJ - just remixed from a different coach.

Tbh it's easier just to find a BJJ place. You're gonna learn all the same stuff especially early on. Maybe do some karate, muay thai, or boxing classes too
