Like society is collapsing because people don't think you should use slurs anymore? If that's the case, maybe it should collapse. It's just insane that these people are trying to paint political correctness, which has been a prominent issue in American politics for decades, as this powerful new phenomenon that will either destroy us or be forgotten completely.
It's neither of those things you fucking psychos. Empathetic, intelligent, and compassionate people will continue to be respectful of marginalized groups while assholes will continue to cry about black people in star wars. Culture is always at a push and pull, it will never be homogeneous.
My best guess is that while it isn't new to vocally oppose bigotry, it's the first time many of these people have encountered it directly. Or maybe the only obstacles in their life are getting mocked on social media, so they equate being called a racist on twitter to the end of all society.

It's just very slow because some of the powers that be are still aware they need to get this beast across the finish line before the wheels really pop off (hence the COVID relief checks only being offset 2:1 or so by corporate welfare). And why Europe is next in line to have its resources extracted for the motherland.
At the end of the day, Capital ended up with the US' military as its enforcement apparatus, so they're kind of the only population they need to keep brainwashed, relatively docile (when it comes to those with power) and generally getting treats (before they finish automating the surveillance systems, war machines, computers, and algorithms to control the future police planet).
