Yeah, there are millions of CHUDs that fall outside these demographics, enough to secure them the majority ideologically and culturally. I don't think they're "making a mistake". It may look like to us that they are just wasting their time on easy battles to make them feel good about themselves, but they paid attention to hopper as kids.
EDIT: Even if it's the right that outnumbers the left, they still know what they're doing.
