preventing people from being shackled to a corporation who poisons you is uh, puritanism?

I don't want anyone to smoke, that shit is disgusting and deadly, but prohibition never works and arguably makes it worse.

I do believe in safer access to drugs but honestly out of all of them I consider cigs to be among the worst drugs :shrug-outta-hecks: Like should we legalize meth or should we make it free to get anti addiction meds and so on

Both. It being illegal doesn't help anything and again probably just makes it worse. But of course addiction treatments and fixing the social and economic causes of drug abuse are the actual solution.

My thing is like, ok, we give drugs to people who are already doing them and the supply is sketchy and maybe unsafe if we don't. Alright, cool. Legalization would also help with gathering statistics on the issue. But we also have the issue of making it more available for people who are curious first-timers, which is not good when your goal is to reduce addiction rates. I could see a situation where its legal if you have had it tested in your system before or something. This would effectively kneecap suppliers while also reducing the number of people exposed to it.

But another thing is cigarettes don't only harm you, it physically harms anyone around you too. So its different from just shooting up in your own home, shit even smoking in your own home restricts the supply of safe housing. In this way smoking is worse than other drugs because it can cause environmental hazards.

I'm sure part of the reason making shit like heroin illegal doesn't work in the slightest is the fact it's fucking heroin. Cigarettes are not nearly as addictive in terms of the feeling they provide. I'm not disagreeing with your point though.

Cigarettes are horribly addictive, it's the habit. I have seen people quit because they were pregnant or switch other nicotine things, but never quit outright. A guy (an anecdote ) once told me that quitting heroin was easier than quitting cigarettes. At least to him.

Prohibition doesn't work because the system doesn't provide alternatives or support networks to allow people to ramp off.

Now weed is getting more legal- I can't imagine people willingly choosing hyper addictive tar with literally no benefits over chill weed.

Maybe the near 1 million people that die yearly from second and third hand smoke have a right to live their lives too?

I don't even agree with banning cigarettes, but if you want to use arguments like that, it goes both ways.
