    I mean, Halliburton seemed happy enough to take paychecks twenty years ago.

    That said, very little in Iraq ever actually got rebuilt. Most of what exists today was simply salvaged and guarded.

      This is actually what I mean. Americans will take money to rebuild, and whether it gets done or not, the money will flow

        The money will flow but only inside the US. The exploitation of Ukraine - particularly Eastern Ukraine - will be far more difficult now than it was a decade ago simply because they've demolished everything in the country a Western actor would need to control it.

        In the same way that our invasion of Iraq pushed the country directly into the arms of Iran and our conquest of Afghanistan strengthened regional ties with Pakistan, this war in Ukraine will be far more geopolitically beneficial to its surrounding neighbors than to a far-flung colonial power.
