It was a good musical, entertaining, good music, great choreography, and a good sad (albeit entirely fictional) story. Some shit was cringe, I agree, but in isolation it was a good musical
I was pretty bored by the 2nd half, the songs were okay when they weren't rapping, and the cinematography was way too close up half the time.
My favorite song was "Helpless" which is a dumb catchy pop song that has nothing to do with anything the musical is supposed to be about lol

Yeah the second half is definitely more boring, and the cinematography was awful, I hated it too. I like the story of his marriage and son, but I can understand not liking it. Helpless is a pretty solid ballad, I like Dear Theodosia for similar reasons. They're all really talented singers, shitty rappers, except for Lin, who is good at neither. If he didn't insist on casting himself as the lead I think it would have been much better, my friends who saw the touring show much prefer the actor that they used.
