I'm conflicted on this because it's bad people doing bad things poorly but it also shows what kinds of powers a handful of holdouts of a party really has. Maybe it'll be enough to shake some libs out of "the Dems did their best" type thinking?

Unfortunately, this just means that business will move even further away from the nominally democratic centers of power, further into the backrooms. However, we can take some heart in the fact that it really unmasks the whole farce of the thing to people who were paying attention.

Problem is, I'm fairly certain most people coming in cold with American ideology will think, well we should just get rid of the entire government (i.e. let corporations run everything).

This would not work the same way from the left (like left adventurism does not have the same effect as right-wing stochastic terrorism). The rachet goes right, not left.

Thr wingnuts who are doing this are the same ones who drive full-on government shutdowns, who at least play to the "we don't need 95% of the federal government" crowd. So they'll get treated with kid gloves by Republican media, and might even get sporadic support. Republican media is friendly to its lunatic fringe as a rule anyway.

Leftists who would do this want to use the government to actually do something, and Democrats broadly want to do the same. So they'll get negative coverage for grinding the government to a standstill, on top of the red-baiting shit they get already.
