There's farming and then there's farming. One kind of farming is the homesteading settler colonialist who lives isolated in the frontier abusing his family and getting high on reactionary power fantasies. That kind of farming is creepy as hell.
Another kind of farming is the farm that is part of a village, the way most people have lived for millennia. People dream of that kind of farming in part because it implies being part of a community and escaping the alienation of existence under capitalism. When I think back on my grandparents who lived on a farm they were anything but isolated and were active in all sorts of volunteer organisations and were friends with their neighbours.
And then there's a third kind of farming, the mechanised modern agriculture that replaced the villages, secured a stable food supply, freed up labour for other activities and created untold environmental destruction. Nobody has romantic dreams of this kind of farming but it is the kind of farming we actually have and have to build on.
