Well non-gamer isn't entirely accurate but I haven't played any for 6 years now. And definitely not any platformers outside of a few Super Mario Bros. Was also pretty terrible at any slightly mechanically challenging game (like TF2, GunZ: The Duel, Melee) Picked this one up because it was like 80% off and for the :cat-trans: culture
This game was fun! The controls are simple and not too technically demanding leaving the difficulty up to your ability to space, control your movement, and path throughout the levels
The skill curve is pretty smooth imo. I actually found the first half of the game far harder than the last half because once you stop mashing buttons and start thinking about each key stroke, the low technical floor allows for easy movement
Thankfully, the levels and mechanics were clearly designed for speedrunning in mind so even if you pick up the controls quickly, the rest of the game is still extremely fun due to smooth and responsive movement. You also have the ability to path each level at high speeds even without speedrunning tech making challenging yourself easily accessible. I kind of felt like a (shitty) speedrunner myself in many levels because of this
Story is also easily digestible and simple to understand while being emotionally gripping and heartwarming, though I was always high when I played so that might have been a factor
Music is alright. Sound effects were extremely satisfying and added to that speedrunning feel
Graphics are passable, nothing amazing
Would highly recommend. Honestly more fun than any Super Mario Bros game I've played due to the smooth speedrunning physics aspect. The game is as high paced as you want to be, even if your fingers are terribly slow like mine, making it fast fun for all levels of gamers imo
I've restarted Celeste like three different times and yet I still haven't gotten past the mirror temple. I'm glad you enjoyed your time playing it! It's such a wonderful game, maybe I'll pick it up again sometime soon :comfy:
