    This is not really a lack of imagination, as much as it is the direct negation of it.

    This person is very deliberately making the argument that our imagined ideals for what the world could be like, aren't the actual material reality of things. That the material reality of things is that Liberal Capitalism has defeated all of it's social & ideological competitors, and that it managed to do this because more people want Capitalism than Socialism. And so you should shut the fuck up & get in line if you want to actually matter to global society.

    Of course this is argument is both about 30 years worn by now, and predicated on the material reality of 30 years ago continuing uninterrupted into the forseeable, & unforseeable future.

    So it is really quite spurious.
