It's columnist David Brooks!

The American right, for instance, finds itself in a state of perpetual apocalyptic alarm these days. Streeter observes that it’s not the poorer members of the conservative coalition who are pessimistic; it’s the affluent white Republicans who watch Tucker Carlson and believe the nation is on the verge of total destruction.

So Brooks's main gripe about the US right-wing media ecosystem isn't the lying, it's the pessimism?

The fascist christian extrermist with genocidal tendencies and a burning desire to keep pumping oil untilk the planet dies is fine, it's the pessimism i can't tolerate!

I like that one David Brooks article where he implies you need a college degree to understand Italian sandwiches

    Let's see....

    • Fascism has flawlessly won every single culture war and is the most popular ideology, especially among younger people so I am completely incompatible with my generation.

    • We shrugged our shoulders and just gave up giving a shit about COVID, because there are weirdos being gay to torment.

    • We never have done shit to address the climate because normies think pollution makes us look badass.

    • Nazis commit hate crimes all the time and get cheered on by everyone.

    • Housing is permanently unaffordable, and homeowners are laughing at milennials/zoomers, most of which are scumbags that support housing being a luxury for the rich.

    • I have pretty much reserved myself to accepting that nothing good ever will happen.

    More like Reich track.

Kinda really venting because everywhere on Twitter and TikTok for every one leftist, there are about a hundred "based retvrn" types. Same with youtube. The internet is a less filtered place, so I am under the impression that since right-wing voices outnumber left-wing voices, that right-wing ideology is that popular.

Like I said with Sani, pardon me if this is dumb, but this is the conclusion I have been led to and I definitely need some good news.

That's what life looks like under Capitalism, yes. Might as well drop human beings into a magma flow and observe that the average human life span is less than a minute.

A better world is possible, and it might be the case that the West isn't going to be the one to do it, not first and not alone. You seem like you'd enjoy revolutionary defeatism.

I apologize if this is a really stupid question, but here goes. What makes revolutionary defeatism different from a type of accelerationism?

I didn't know what the term meant and I looked it up, but this sentence on the wikipedia page: "Workers would gain more from their own nations’ defeats, he argued, if the war could be turned into civil war and then international revolution." made me raise an eyebrow.

Because we don’t want the nukes to launch in the first place. The USA is sick and it needs to go to bed.
