For minor colds, headaches and the like I'll try herbal medicine first, if they don't work I have no problem reaching for the pills. For real problems I'm always going modern medicine, I have found for a couple chronic conditions herbal stuff makes good supplements. I'm also not just taking some old guys word something works, a lot of plants have years of history in both the west and east as well as some scientific research into them so I try to look that info up too.
The one stand by I always try to keep around for headaches and muscle pain is white lotus oil, not really sure whats in it but definitely some mint and eucalyptus and I assume lotus.

The thamnolia and the arenaria have been particularly hard for me to learn about other than they look wicked

Is that for rubbing or for huffing or a bit of both?
Huff and temples for headaches rub for muscles, kind like icyhot but way more potent.
Oooo that sounds kind of nice actually. Kind of like tiger balm but with lotus
