I enjoyed the Wednesday show for what it's worth, but some of the criticisms brought up here are irrefutable to me and I can only go :yea:
I only watched a bit with my younger sister (13), it struck me as a pretty standard power fantasy show - middle school sucks but what if you were super cool and competent and also in the special school for monster people. Harry Potter was definitely a strong influence, but it has more of a spooky vibe than a fantastical one which gives it what I'll call an "entry-level goth" appeal.
Isn't she also supposed to be stronger as well? I watched most of it, it isn't bad. At least it stays somewhat internally consistent.
She's pretty competent, and at one point beats up three boys significantly larger than her, so I'd say she's not weak. She doesn't win every fight she gets into, but if she did that'd be kind of boring to me anyway.
I really like the Addams family "franchise," and so I'll watch any content branded thusly. (By piracy, of course.) But I had my issues with this series.
I hate to be that lib, but it sounds like the plot of this show is basically just the Chamber of Secrets
It did have probably deliberate overlap with Harry Potter from the boardroom to the writing drafts to the stage direction.
Fuck. Now I feel bad for having enjoyed it, because these criticisms are valid.
Wednesday Addams be like: "Bad Thing?"
*rolls dice*
"Actually, we do Bad Thing for fun!"
