I think this is where you fail to understand Britain. No one claimed it was ironic and unlike Jerry Springer they didn't fake stuff. British reality tv is simply hateful and the point was that the viewers viewed the people on the show with open contempt.
British reality tv is simply deeply meanspirited, we get a lot of reality tv related suicides.
it's not unique in British reality tv but it might be the worst.
for example One direction got famous on a reality tv show singing competition the first episode of which is basically devoted to mocking the mentally ill for deludedly thinking they can sing
also you get it the point is contempt and cruel mockery

I still remember returning to the main gaming board of a prominent gaming message board after taking a break for a few years and seeing almost every topic on the board be about "Anita"

So I do enough sorting through that garbage to find out she made youTube videos and I watch one to see what all the fuss is about

The closest I ever came to watching Jerry Springer was in high school earth science class when we got ahead of the material and our teacher let the class decide what to watch on tv near the end of the year but for me I ignored it and it was just another day, I already played video games through that class and the teacher couldn't say shit because I got straight As
Still our teacher was pretty cool, he did have us watch Fern Gully and I put down the Nintendo DS for that one

EDIT: Asked and got a pretty sharp "I'm not a political channel" in their discord so I guess they're scared of being labelled that. Maybe they'll grow into it.
