    why can't hollywood do a Keystone Cops reboot - I'd love to see some modern Charlie Chaplin busting up idiot cops for hours

      Keystone cops is so wild from a modern perspective the idea of not just a few but entire departments of cops being depicted as mean, stupid, brutal, and totally incompetent, played for laughs, is almost unthinkable in the era of wall to wall copaganda.

        There's moments in 80s-90s action films like Terminator and others that sort of approach this vibe to a degree in certain contexts, but it surely has become far less common to depict it positively or even in a 'neutral' way. The idea of police state incompetency and corruption has been relegated to the conspiracy thriller genre in the last few decades.
