yeah, that is a bit weird, but i can't really talk, when i was a kid i had goldfish called Bob, John, Dave, and Lord Percival von Fish, First Lord of The Admiralty.
Basically, people are not rational 100% of the time, so we are willing to look past some of the bad things a cute animal does because it's cute. It's the same reason people hate the idea of eating the meat of certain animals but don't mind others, we aren't thinking of it logically.
