I'd like to design more furniture or have a larger island to work with.
I think a big thing is you don't really pay rent, it's more like a mortgage, and even then you don't actually have to pay him back. He's not going to kick you out or anything.
It's more like he owns a company town. Right down to the currency.
You are made to colonize a tract of land into the company town. All items in the store are bought and sold through Nook.
You also recruit others to the island to increase Nook's profits.
It's interesting because he was made more capitalistic in other ways.
Like the island is basically a company town down to them using their own kind of money.
It's also really fucked up that there are several characters they could use to run the shop. They know adults play this game and they keep acting like they don't work. It's really kinda classist if you think about how Japan really pushes its workers.
Also, racoons are literally nocturnal. It would be way funnier if the store was only open at night
Yeah. It would make so much sense for the game to be more active at night. Most kids play it after school and most adults play after work.
Also there's something fun about being a kid and exploring the night life.
Just shift the game clock. If you can’t play during the day you will be blocked from catching certain bugs and fish as well
The first mod would 100% be romanceable animals and for this reason I'm glad it isn't a PC game.
let they who has never wanted to give their uchi villager a kiss cast the first stone
I feel like the proliferation of Animal Crossing mods would lead to a lot of those situations where you come across a new mod you'd never have considered but immediately need and now the game is unplayable without it.
and each of those "unplayable without" mods will crash if you use more than one lol
And then you come back to the game like 15 years later with a new PC and all of a sudden it just works. "Oh wow. The solution to these mods not working together was that we just needed ten times as much VRAM as existed back then."
A mod that makes it so that villager personalities are no longer genderlocked, and villager voices are no longer locked to personalities.
I feel like which villagers should be changed to which personalities would cause a whole lot of discourse (lol) but having a set few changed over to increase character variety would be nice. There are way too many banger designs locked behind the Lazy archetype, which is fine by itself but having more than two of them in a town is kinda irritating.
Slightly related, a dialogue mod to make Lazy villagers more laid back and normal like their earlier game installments instead of endless jokes about talking to bugs would be nice.
The villagers in the newest AC are terrible, complete backwards regression from even the original AC on GameCube. They are all 1 dimensional, have a few stock quotes, don’t have side quests or tasks or goals anymore, etc. They are completely boring and there’s barely any point talking to them. Bring back angry villagers, bring back tasks and chores, bring back more diverse dialogue than empty pleasantries
Oh here's an idea I've tooled around with
personality-specific character quests
Example: A peppy villager (that's not gender locked) has the dream of being a popstar, right? Well you talk to her about her confidence issues. You need to item craft a karaoke machine (or you get the recipe along the way) and help her feel more confident. The quest finishes with the villager putting on a show that you decorate and she comes on the stage like an idol star as she performs a cover of one of KK's songs.
All of those character quests would end with a KK song preformed over the credits. The idol one is unique in that the villager sings a cover of it.
For other personalities I thought the quests would be something like this:
Snooty - you find out why they are so mean and arrogant sometimes and you find out it's because they were extremely lonely as a child and you help them connect to the other villagers.
Grouchy -maybe they are like that because they lost someone close to them. You help them heal from that and let others in.
Lazy - maybe they're just really chill and they help you instead. They help you relax more and give you easy quests. It would also invert the dynamic of a quest being done for them. They're trying to help you too.
Yeah like, in New Leaf villagers had assigned 'hobbies' that had them give you unique tasks connected to them, like clothes, fossils and gardening.
In New Horizons hobbies mainly only determine what animations they favor when idling around on the island. Like I'm sure that's great for the players who just consider villagers decorations but for everyone else, what a downgrade.
The Lazy villagers were done a disservice. Heck all the personalities were flattened.
Yeah like one of the main points of cranky and snooty villagers would be that they take time to warm up to you. Now they're both super nice to you right out of the gate. Okay admittedly yeah I don't hate cranky villagers being gruff loving grandpas but something's missing in the experience now.
I'm still annoyed that grumpy villagers were changed into nice old men
Considering how horrifying the anatomical art first generation AI generators made, the 3d generators will produce some of the most abominably horrifying creatures one can imagine.
Horny eldritch horrors too I don't mind it'll get real weird when the animators start using them.
Oh god what about an animating AI?
Computer: I’m here to entertain you
User: Nude Tayne I can get into
I that modding it is probably already possible through Switch emulators and hacked Switches. Though idk if anyone's done it yet.
Edit: Yeah it looks like there are some. But like most mods on GameBanana there don't seem to be any that make major changes. Mostly just adding new furniture.
Yeah there's a number of mods but it's mostly various aesthetic mods plus some custom furniture models. As far as new game mechanics and QOL go, it's mostly regulated to save editors and island geometry hacking tools (which are admittedly very cool but jank as hell to use)
Yeah I've been disappointed at the lack of feature mods for other games, and it always seems to be on GameBanana with no mods anywhere else.
A big one is Smash Bros Ultimate. I'd think there would be a huge community adding new fighters and stuff the way there was with Project M, but all I could find are just model swaps with existing fighters.
Unfortunately it takes time and community interest and effort to crack into the scripting of modern games...
Except for games built in already known engines like Unity which has allowed Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl romhackers to do some genuinely wild shit to the game already
If ever there was a game I want to mod.
1: have an easier, surefire way to replace villagers with ones you might want.
2: have an easier, surefire way to get the sets/crafting recipes you want
3: don't make everyone on the island have to stop for cutscenes when someone else joins. So many worthless cutscenes.
4: maybe make a whole island editor UI because why the fuck would anyone want to manually do it with a character tile by tile
5: most importantly: crafting more than one thing at a time
Most of my complaints come from a lot of the tediousness of the game
To be fair there already is an easy surefire way to replace villagers with the ones you want, you just have to spend money on real life peripherals.
And by that I mean a roll of NTAG215 NFC stickers you program with the villager amiibos you want lmao
It's so tedious! That's what it is. But I think the cutscene thing is to cover for loading when a player joins.
The island editing mod would be so nice. It's so easy to fuck up too. Like you can wipe off a square you customized if you're not careful.
Yes the game is insanely tedious whenever you need to craft something en masse. I remember turning all my clams into fish bait and it taking like an hour
I'd make the villagers talk to each other more.
I'd also make it so that folks like Isabelle and Blathers have homes and time off while on the island. I just think it's nice to respect that even if someone has a job, they have a life outside of it.
I'd bring back the working nes games
Oooh that gave me a great idea! Thank you!
A train ride where you actually spend time and walk among the cars. There are a bunch of random villagers and if you make friends with one, they'll try to move to your town or they visit you. The train can also be a method to travel to a city
- 256x256 tile pattern editor... i think the current one is like 32x32. i make it work, but i'd like more detail.
- more custom clothing options. like pants/shorts, more types of hats, shoes. like pretty much, any clothing 3d model, i should be able to make a custom version of it. design my own shades, eye patch, crown. i should also be able to draw my own face entirely.
my sister has been playing for maybe a year and a half. i got it a month ago. i was designing a tankie winter coat :meow-tankie: for myself on probably my 2nd day and she's like, "oh, i haven't really done anything with the editor" and i'm like, "you are playing this game incorrectly."
the pattern editor has come a long way since gamecube and i like the sharing of designs. that whole aspect of the game is my favorite and i get very focused on it. i'm glad we can make something insane keep 60+ patterns when totally upgraded.
Just having transparency being a color option was revolutionary tbh
Now if only they'd give you the ability to toggle the pixel smoothing filter on or off for patterns.
