    not a fiction film, but Motherload is an indie docu about cargo bikes with strong feminist themes and history sprinkled through it

    Haven't gotten around to them but I've heard good things about Blackboards and At Five in the Afternoon by Samira Makhmalbaf. They come to mind because you mentioned Persepolis and Samira is also an Iranian filmmaker.

    Edit: idk if they're actually indie, but I don't imagine Iranian filmmakers making films about Afghan or Kurdish women are given huge budgets, lol.
