Mamma Mia, that's a spicy mechball! chefs-kiss

I love that Italy got some early Tomino shows before anyone else.

Italy is a huge weeb land. When private television was legalized around the late 70s, many of the new channels (especially those owned by Berlusconi) put whatever they got their hands on on their programming. In many cases, it happened to be imported Japanese anime. Even as late as the mid 2010s (when I last lived there and before the switch to digital television) those channels were a mixture of anime, football (soccer) talk shows, infomercials, B-movies and sometimes low-budget regional programming.

The presence of a domestic comic-book industry (probably Europe's largest tbh, France and/or Belgium after that) helped too. Weebery found open doors in Italy.

You just unlocked a memory of mine where I watched DBZ in Italian in a hostel, while having a meal of a grocery store sandwich and a Weihenstephaner, over there during some travel I did in the early 2010s lol.
