I still have to finish Divinity: Original Sin 2 before I can even think about Baldurs Gate 3
The problem with Early Access is that I see that BG3 is finally coming out and my first reaction is "I've already played that".
Is it me, or has WotC really leaned hard into their own IP of late? This is the second big budget "Illithids as Featured Monsters" game I've seen in as many years. Also, I've noticed a much greater focus on Beholders, Displacer Beasts, Umber Hulks and the like, relative to the more "generic" goblins and halflings and dragons.
They've always been my favorite D&D monsters. But I'm not a fan of using them as mooks.
I can hardly blame you. I don't think I even beat the original. Had fun for a while though.
ten years ago you had folks from obsidian pitching them stuff only to get rejected. nowadays it seems almost anybody can get the license, from more organized folks like larian to that newbie? sword coast legends team. wotc also really, really wants to turn D&D itself into a subscription service. its like they woke up 5-6 years ago and realized there was money to be made.
Warhammer games are having a renaissance rn because of GW sticking to and refining their relatively open licensing policy, I wouldn't be surprised if Hasbro saw this trend and decided to try and cash in as well since the video game industry has blown up in value to such a degree over the last decade or so.
Sweet been waiting for it to leave early access cause I didn't feel like re-pirating it every three months.
Denuvo and other 'anti tamper' spyware always get cracked so quick after release 😆. The real envy of pirating games is a multiplayer/server requirement and patches lol. Especially how often people who upload cracked games don't upload patches or the newer version.
Yeah, this has been cracked basically since a early access first came out but I didn't want to wait months between patches and have to re-download the whole game every time to get them. Probably get it a couple weeks after release to get those "day 1" patches and then again in six months or so when the multi player crack comes out.
ive managed to hold off on BG3 somehow and i LOVE DOS2 so im hyped
Divinity Original Sin 1 or 2 have never really captured me but hoping this game is the kind of rpg I've been looking for sense finally playing Dragon Age Origins. Glad it's coming out of early access.
Still haven't played through Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 lol.
I couldn't get into those either, I think it was just too light hearted and whimsical maybe? I enjoy darker sword and sorcery fantasy. I liked pillars of eternity for example.
yes thank you! I've heard great things about Pillars (haven't played it yet) and am enjoying Tyranny for it's writing and gameplay and in spite of it's art style not being the greatest imo, which is also made by Obsidian.
Divinity Original Sins world and overall design just feels too much like a GAME ya know. It's clearly well polished and has a lot of depth but it's world feels so light hearted (Unlike Pillars Of Eternity or Dragon Age 1) and not immersive. The world building feels like it exists for the sake of the game and gameplay structure rather then it's own other place.
Not really a critique, can tell they are very solid games yet like you they didn't capture my interest.
That's intentional I think. The game is designed to be linear and easy to understand with decent pacing. Compared to a true crpg like pathfinder, divinity is far more easier to get into.
I really tried to get into PoE, but RTwP is such a pain. The writing was awesome though.
Normally this kind of direct presentation of dnd would bore me, but Divinity OS2 was such turn-based delight that I am excited for this. If it's anything like OS2 it will shine in the encounter design--long, involved battles with occasional curve balls to ecourage movement and flexibility
