I joked once that we should smuggle communist ideas under the phrase "longtermism" because communists actually want humanity to survive in the long term... then I was informed that the word "longtermism" was already used by these freaks.
Let me start this essay with a love story. Susan and Patrick were a young German couple in love. But, the German state never allowed Susan and Patrick to get married. [...] Why did Germany do all these terrible things to Susan and Patrick? Eugenics. No, this story didn’t happen in Nazi Germany, it happened over the course of the last 20 years. But why haven’t you heard this story before? Because Patrick and Susan are siblings. [...] Our instinctive aversion to incest is informed by intuitive eugenics.
"Instinctive aversion" my ass. I am 100% in favour of Germans being allowed to marry their siblings. It's fucking hilarious, and it doesn't really make Germans any more disgusting than they were already.
I have Elon Musk to thank for letting out the last of my unironic technocrat phase in one huge shudder. Do you know what about tech seems to attract so many CHUDs perchance?
Maybe he has a point. I'm so fucking tired of seeing these billionaire techbros ruling my life and being the most vocal 'leaders' in the technology field
Anyone who advocates for eugenics should go look up Moviebob and his stance on eugenics.
Still think eugenics are cool?
The first topic this article brings up is incest, with an example of a brother & sister couple who had several congenitally diseased children.
It is worth noting that those parents were not banned from having children altogether, they were just prohibited from having children with each other. They could have each found other partners and had children with those other hypothetical partners, and there wouldn’t have been an issue. Usually “eugenics” refers to policies that prevent certain individuals from procreating with any partner, like forced sterilization.
Also, this article is kind of similar to a disingenuous argument about abortion that conservatives sometimes make.
Disingenuous pro-life conservatives: “allowing women to get abortions is eugenics against whichever women end up doing so (i.e. largely black women), therefore Democrats are racist and abortion should be illegal”
Effective Altruism weirdos: “allowing women to get abortions is eugenics against whichever women end up doing so (i.e. women who become pregnant with deformed embryos), therefore eugenics isn’t that bad”
Both start with the same wrongheaded idea, but they use different examples to draw converse conclusions from it.
