Some horrible tragedy is in the news, and in the comments someone's aunt goes
How terrible! I pray the victims' souls find peace in Heaven 🙏
Suddenly, atheist guy
You DELUDED FOOL, souls do not exist and there is no God or the afterlife. Try using more logic
:reddit-logo: remains in the bacon era.
Also a related type of post.
Description of benign thing regular ass people do for reasons of faith and spirituality
Reddit guy: Heh, I bet you thats just the cover story they tell gullible morons.
Or just the same type of rant regardless of context about how "99% of bad things are because of religion and/or how humanity would live in epic bacon Ready Blade Runner 1 future if it wasnt for people believing in magic guys living in the clouds."
I was admiring an absolutely gorgeous Church once, and someone was complaining about how much money was wasted on it. This person is against social programs, so who knows what he wanted done with the money. I still don't comprehend what the thought process is. Like, if people didn't pray before meals we'd be teleporting? Explain to me why our space program has gotten progressively worse in a rough correlation with church attendance declining then. I obviously don't think these things affect each other in this, but since they see a connection they need to explain it.
I think with this kind of stuff they think like, if you are religious that means you are stupid, you lack intelligence, and if less people were religious(stupid morons) that means we would be overall smarter, and as the smartness line goes up that directly translates to faster and further progress in all fields of science and technology.

The church was a work of art. It was brilliantly made, with many gorgeous statues and reliefs within it. You don't have to believe in or in any way support Christianity to look at the pieta or sistine chapel and find it moving, beautiful, and worth the time and resources spent on it. Or do you think the Iliad sucks because it ties into a religious tradition?

When I was a teenage atheist I called everything that involves "convince people to die for it" religion including nationalism and because I was a shitlib Marxism because I thought marxist just bring communist manifesto and preach about communism to spread marxism like religion.
