There was also an ancient monkey-thing that probably evolved into both humans and kangaroos.

Jellyfish and coral also share a common ancestor. My favorite is that hyenas aren't dogs at all and are more closely related to cats.

Nature is just like yeah whatever, evolve and shit

to be fair you have to go back a ways for that, to the ancestor animals of all ungulates (even and odd-toed hooved animals).

whales are way closer to hippos and camels and cows and pigs (even-toed ungulates).

I have an irrational fear of horse / deer turning carnivorous. Like they get a zombie-like rabies plague and just start biting people for bloodthirst.

Mostly because they are big animals but paradoxically so quiet they can just sneak up on you.

Once upon a time, me and some buddies were quite high on shrooms while alone at a friend's dad's farm. We were walking around outside in a field enjoying a full moon giving everything a glowing, eerie vibe when suddenly there is just a huge, white horse immediately next to us in the twilight. Not a sound. Even in the half-dark we only identified it by sight. Needless to say, I nearly shat myself and we got the f outta there real quick

There is a type of deer in southern africa that are omnivorous. There is an old urban legend about a frind of a friend of mine who found one raised it and when he was petingit in his lap got disembiweled by the deer.

Exactly, I used to walk to a horse ranch as a kid and just give them grass they couldn't reach from my side of fence. They don't bite, at least most of them anyway, and they'll let you pet their nose.

Horses always have the deadest look in their eyes when you see them in the field. I don't think they're happy on tiny farms.
