He didn't care for the remake much and thought it was a bland retread with its edges sanded down and preferring the overtly campy elements of the original

I've been playing this game for the last few days, and honestly, I'd say its probably the best remake they've made so far. I'm not going to say that its better than the original overall, but I do think its better in some ways, and only slightly worse in others. I especially like how it handles the characters and how they interact with each other: Ashley actually feels like a person here instead of a glorified key item, when she's gone it actually makes the game feel a little lonlier and more oppressive, where as in the original I couldn't wait for her to get taken.

___Luis has a more significant presence, too, even helping you out near the end of the castle stage, and after going through so much with him, his death actually does feel meaningful compared to the old Luis. My favorite thing about the game, perhaps controversially, is how unlikable they make Ada, a character I just can't stand in any of the games. I could go on a rant about her, but I won't, for now. But the remake IS streamlined more than the original, which is a criticism others have leveled at the previous two installments, and it does feel a bit pandoring at times, like the Mr. X type guy feels like he's just there for old fans: his death doesnt even play into the plot and his eye is just a treasure item instead of a key, making his inclusion in the game just feel like Capcom jumping and pointing at him and going "look its him, we put him in the game". If the original is a 10/10 perfect, the remake is a 9.89/10, just barely missing the mark IMO.

Ada being unlikeable is nothing new. Have you played 6 recently? Her dialogue is insufferably bad, her every line is just her being smarmy and smug

___That's fair, but in the original games it always feels like they're trying to humanize her and make her seem like a bad guy with a good streak, which I don't get. Removing the male gaze and shipping aspect from the equation (Leon x Any one but Ada), Ada is an unlikeable monster who continues to work for an evil company and its psycho owners, and is DIRECTLY responsible for the forced infection of, and subsequent murder of, hundreds of (likely) innocent people in RE 5. Her main boss (Wesker) is one red armband away from yelling angry german at a crowd of tyrants. We shouldn't feel anything for her but disatisfaction at the fact she continues to be a part of the series.

But she's cool and mysterious! :pog-fish:

She works for all kinds of horrible people but is always, ALWAYS secretly a triple agent working for someone else which I think is supposed to balance it out.

I think she somehow stiffed Wesker with the Master Plaga sample, or also gave it to some other party, or something?
