imo its far more about independence than anything. if you can work and make OK money and so can your partner, thats equitable. the whole point is being able to know when and how to leave someone. the relationship can turn toxic if it isnt like that. 18-22 is still vulnerable imo, but once you are independent ages 23-30 i think anything above that age is fair game. its also just... is that older person a creep and is looking specifically for young people to date? thats a toxic attitude and as soon as you 'age out' of their favored range they will dump you.

21 as vice-purchase age is puritanical, using that as proxy for aoc/adulthood is also puritan

a petition to raise the age of majority is different from raising just the aoc, but i'll give you that that'd be far more consistent. 20 is cool for decimals but any of the numbers in the neighborhood are just arbitrary, you can't reliably tell an 18 year old from a 21 year old except through their relationship to institutions

this will only be used to target gays lol. :ukkk: has a universal aoc of 16, no american-style romeo and juliet stuff, and yet we have a lower teenage pregnancy rate than any state in the US. the law should not be the only arbiter of morality, and in fact legal systems are a terrible fuckin way to manage this shit compared to social norms

I always think it should be guided by maturity and life experience. That works with the 18 cutoff because that's when a lot of people first start to live more or less independently. I also think that maturity varies greatly in smaller age ranges when we're younger, but then there are diminishing returns starting in maybe your mid-20s or so, so age gaps between adults don't matter that much.
