At the 2021 SEMA show in Las Vegas, Ford unveiled the F-100 Eluminator concept truck, an electromod restoration of a 1978 F-100 repowered with the electric vehicle drivetrain and front and rear suspension subframes taken from the Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition.
But it would not exactly be reasonably priced...
Ford Performance engineer Brian Novak said that since the engineering drawings were finished, a second example could be built for "McLaren money, not Bugatti money", which Motor Trend estimated to be $500,000.
Sales would be terrible because it will be a stripped down truck with a super basic interior to meet or skirt around safety requirements at that size but will still cost $35,000. What people actually want is a $10,000 vehicle with a ton of utility and a nice interior.
The automotive industry needs a complete reset, and the way to get there is by regulating vehicle dimensions to eliminate trucks and SUVs and mandating that manufacturers must sell a compact EV eligible for the $7500 ev rebate at under $15,000 MSRP. America needs Mini EVs for under $10,000, and it needs them to be basically the only option.
