Ford F-Series

At the 2021 SEMA show in Las Vegas, Ford unveiled the F-100 Eluminator concept truck, an electromod restoration of a 1978 F-100 repowered with the electric vehicle drivetrain and front and rear suspension subframes taken from the Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition.

But it would not exactly be reasonably priced...

Ford Performance engineer Brian Novak said that since the engineering drawings were finished, a second example could be built for "McLaren money, not Bugatti money", which Motor Trend estimated to be $500,000.

Electric vehicles are stupid simple machines. I've always thought a 'car guy' EV is a good idea. Work on your own battery, motor, and DC-AC converter.

I've learned from becoming a motorcycle guy that the exact part of my brain that likes Linux and coding also likes carburetors and welding. This has to be an untapped market: sell your vehicles by explicitly comparing your competition to Microsoft and Apple and yourself to FOSS, recruit a cohort of DIY-types who rightfully don't ever want to pay a monthly fee for heated seats.

That's what I mean, even with it locked down people are trying to tinker. It's only a matter of time until some EV company forms and does like open hardware stuff that lets car nerds tinker with their cars.

I'm sure my Dad would like a pickup truck that actually fits in his garage. His old Datsun 720 was pretty much perfect, and every pickup since then has just gotten more gigantic and expensive.

I have one of these small trucks right now and I've gotten an offer on it literally every time I've had the oil changed. It's a manual that gets almost 30mi/gallon with a thigh height bed. Honestly I love the thing to death and when it breaks down in going to be pretty upset.

So considering how much positive attention I get I'd say it would have a lot of demand.

Sales would be terrible because it will be a stripped down truck with a super basic interior to meet or skirt around safety requirements at that size but will still cost $35,000. What people actually want is a $10,000 vehicle with a ton of utility and a nice interior.

The automotive industry needs a complete reset, and the way to get there is by regulating vehicle dimensions to eliminate trucks and SUVs and mandating that manufacturers must sell a compact EV eligible for the $7500 ev rebate at under $15,000 MSRP. America needs Mini EVs for under $10,000, and it needs them to be basically the only option.

Idk but I've never wanted a car more than that F-100 concept one. It's just so cute!

Generally I love older styles of cars I think. Hopefully it doesn't lose much in terms of aero and crumple zones tho.

Somehow when I first saw it I thought it was a regular truck a year or two away from being available.

Generally I love older styles of cars.

Me too. I like the 1960s and 1970s the most. Like the 1970 stepside Chevrolet C10 pickup. Starting around ~1990 I lost the ability to even remember particular car models. So often they look the generic and the same to me. It's similar but far weaker for trucks because the grills can be distinctive. But I usually really hate the designs.

This happens every god damn year with Android smartphones. Phone nerds swear up and down that if someone makes a compact phone with a 3.5mm audio jack and a thick battery they'll buy it.

Every few years some manufacturer or another will fall for it and actually release that phone. Then the phone nerds cry about how it doesn't have an unlocked bootloader or the screen isn't the aspect ratio they want and sales will fucking suck.

Look at the maverick. They're impossible to get - I think they would sell as many as they could make at least for the first few years

My grandfather took good care of his small to mid-size truck and after he died my grandmother was able to sell it for like 10k despite it being like 10 years old because you just can't get that type of truck these days.

How come? Is it because they were actually used as work vehicles and were beaten up more than a sedan from the same era?

Americans love light trucks, Ford can't keep up with Maverik demand. The people running all theese companies are just the stupidest people on earth.

middling enough to be sustainable in "good" times, but not robust enough to survive a recession
