I liked the small dungeons (shrines) on a replay! It provided a way to have fast travel on a big map while also providing challenges and not taking you away from the overworld for too long. The divine beasts served as dungeons, but you couldn't really exit while you were in one, while the game was built around doing whatever you want in any order you want when you want. They definitely gave me a claustrophobic feeling. The shrines on the other hand, you can just leave and come back whenever if you didn't feel like finishing them right now. It was just jarring on release because we were used to Zelda games having vast and complex dungeons to solve.

Although the game could have also played without fast travel, just using the towers and forcing you to move around on your horse because the landscape was actually very cool to explore.

the shrines just felt so dull in comparison to the old dungeons. probably at least partly bc they all share the exact same look as well as the worst music in the series (imo)

the entire game has some of the worst music ive ever heard passed as music. I get that its all "environmental" but all I can ever hear is a cat just hitting keys on a keyboard randomly. It's irritating.

i can understand not liking the style they were aiming for, though i personally only find the shrine music outright irritating. i do think there's a lot to like in the soundtrack though - i'm particularly partial to the rito village theme(s), i think reprising the dragon roost island music was a brilliant idea that really captured that "cozy but tragic decline" feel

in general i'd say the music did its job more than i felt it failed at it buuuut i get that it's not for everyone.
