In typical conservative fashion, our favorite Young Turks cohost let loose in an 18 minute rant around the exponential rise in catalytic convertor thefts after she was affected personally...... when she discovered that her car insurance premiums were rising because of the trend. She segues into a rant about a city Councillor that she voted for who was opposed a successful proposal to make it illegal to be in possession of a convertor without proof of ownership. This council member pointed out that manufacturers like Toyota could install deterrents or even place the convertors in areas of the vehicle that are more difficult to access for thieves. Ana criticizes this because car manufacturers won't do anything if they aren't regulated, and getting Congress to pass legislation is impossible, therefore providing law enforcement with more legal justification to harass poor people and tie up courts with low level offenders is a viable solution. Even at the end of the video, she covers that the DOJ and FBI have been conducting huge raids on the heads of the criminal rings and legal business involved, but that's not good enough. Ms Coultersparian finishes off with "this is the kind of stuff that makes people really reconsider their political affiliations...."

You want the cat in s harder place to get? Toyota did this with the old gen tundra. You have to remove the whole cab to access the part a part that can and will fail It's a 4 grand job in labor with out parts. Cab off means the whole area that you sit in needs to be detached from the frame. Lifted high enough to access the part.

Deterents won't do anything as a grinder will cut through metal extremely fast.

    Weak political affiliations.

I was physically assaulted once by strangers with darker skin than mine and it didn't make me hate their type. In fact, it increased my hatred for the lazy good-for-nothing humanity-denying cops that came to talk to me hours later.

Communism is when you steal cats for the platinum, and the more cats you steal the more communism it is. In fascist italy there were no catalytic converter thefts, you can look it up. This is why i left the left.

Bet she drives a Prius. Or maybe an Element. Those two models are always driving around LA without a cat converter. I know nothing about cars, but is there a reason these two types get targeted?

On the one hand, yeah it sucks that happened I guess, but on the other, if that's all it takes to make you question your political affiliation, then were you ever even on that side of the political spectrum to begin with?

I mean that's just a dumb point. Its part of the exhaust system, catalytic converters get really hot, it's not like you can just put them in a different part of the car. You can literally see the heat shield in the thumbnail. If you do, it's going to be extremely over engineered nonsense. The exhaust has to come out somewhere. And putting it in a cage or something just adds 5 seconds to the thieves job.
