"Those aren't real jobs anyway and if you're against workers getting fucked over by technology leveraged against them you're against logic, science, facts, and The Future. I like my cheap slop. I got mine." :morshupls: Awfully familiar take, isn't it? :cap-think:

well Roko doesn't know anything about AI so I wouldn't worry about anything he thinks is happening. Ironically Roko is a science fiction writer that's the only honest way to describe what he does

These singularity people should be taken about as seriously as scientologists in terms of the credibility of their beliefs and their understanding of the nature of the world

I wouldn't care enough to even post about them for dunks if they weren't paid millions by billionaires to ideologically hijack the very concepts of future speculation, actual AI, and the like and contaminate their perception to the public with woo and narcissistic power fantasies. Also, LessWrong itself is a sex pest cult that drugs and does amateur mind control experiments on "pets" that are just women that want to have well paying jobs in Silicon Valley but get drooled on and pawed over instead while under the influence.

As far as I can tell they haven't taken over much of AI culture among computer scientists and institutions that use it because what they have to say is so stupid no one even remotely informed on the topic can take it seriously. It's gibberish

their real danger is as you said their terrible ideology although I maintain if you are concerned with maximising the long term utility for humanity you should be a communist

I'm glad for that but venture capital and billionaire financing (and media hype) still flows toward the cult. LessWrong being wrong doesn't stop them from harming actual scientific progress with their bloviating bullshit.

if you are concerned with maximising the long term utility for humanity you should be a communist

"Rationalists" want the 1950s except with immortality and superpowers. :grillman:

it does but the ideas they are trying to get funding for are too stupid to work which limits their danger as far as I can tell they are an unintentional grift

I'm still pissed off at the ideological hijacking of so-called "futurology" and how even the concept of AI is split between bullshit marketing lies about chatbots and fantastical robot gods of the future. It derails discussions and leads lots of people into cognitohazards. :disgost:

Science Fiction writers have something useful to say about the human condition.

I guess the existence of Roko, if not his writing, certainly does do that.

writers tell stories and stories can have something useful to say about the human condition. Sometimes a story is just bullshit though as in Roko's case he's basically L Ron Hubbard
