I made an image macro based on this...

Just think, there was a time each of us wound up a tape cassette with a pen for the very last time, and none of us knew when it was.

I changed it a bit and made "each of us" into "some of us" but this post is better as a photo with a question.

I never did this, but I also know for a fact I'm not finished sticking pens through the holes in a ruler and swinging it around like a helicopter

not casette tapes specifically but yeah i rewound the titanic VHS (the second one specifically - I didn't care for the first half of the film) manually many times as a child with a goddamn highlighter specifically so I could pop that sucker back in the VCR to rewatch the ship going down (my favorite part as a kid don't ask me why idk but I loved it) since our VCR was shit and would get the tape spool stuck if you used the rewind function

I've got to be the one, the only one who can

Withstand the test and be the best and

Got to strive, keep up the drive

      BE A MASTER

It takes a certain kind of skill

      And I won't stop until

      150 Pokémon are mine

I must define the art of capture (of all Pokémon)

      :squirtle-jam:

TO BE A MASTER, POKEMON MASTER

      :squirtle-jam:

I WILL BE WRITING A BRAND NEW CHAPTER

(i didn't have the cassette but I DID have the the 2.B.A Master and movie CDs - thank you for reminding me that I used to listen to them 24/7 and the lyrics to every song are burned in my memory - they still slap.........thank you 4kids?)

I always appreciated how "handheld" and rugged a cassette player was compared to a CD player. I stayed on my walkman up until the mid aughts, when I did finally upgrade to an mp3 player.

I suppose that's because a CD has to spin pretty fast and consumer electronic companies would never spend the money to somehow ruggerize them. Ruggerize isnt a word but I couldn't resist.

I never had a portable CD player but I assume if you dropped it just once - it could be toast.

I mean just bumping into or slightly repositioning your portable CD player would make the song skip

I never liked cassette tapes. I had a couple toys growing up that used tapes and I hated them. Something about those damn things just sets me off, probably having to rewind them.

Was still kinda old tech for me as a kid but I had a couple hand me downs from older siblings. Gotta give cassettes one thing over later media in that they are just so satisfying. Everything has a tactile spring and click, and the whir of the tape running or rewinding is soothing.

I really miss the tactical sense of the pre-digital world. But I don't miss the downsides like the crappy audio of cassettes.

I still use cassettes and videotapes now, but for the few times that the tape comes loose I just wind it with my finger. I suppose a pencil is faster but it doesn't come up that often
