Honestly do not understand how anyone could defend Nintendo here. The Dolphin emulates games that are over 15 years old. The only reason to take it down is for extremely petty and greedy reasons.
Like I've said before, I am admittedly a dumb adult baby who loves me some Nintendo slop, but even I'm like... pirate that shit...
I grew up poor. As a kid, piracy was the only way I got to play some games at all. Then there's shit like Mother 3 that we would never see an English version of if we waited for Nintendo.
Piracy gave us Star Fox 2 and was probably the only reason Nintendo released it properly later.
And now retro gaming has become insanely expensive with scalpers driving up prices to stupid highs. Nintendos response? "Now you can't even own a cheap digital copy legally, sorry. Enjoy renting instead from a permanently online store that we can take down any time and will probably be shut down when our next console releases. You own nothing."
Obviously, Nintendo isn't the only video game company that does this, they all do, but it's still shitty. All corporations suck ass, including video game companies (especially video game companies). It's so alien to me that people would feel bad for 'stealing' from the companies that hold their developer's creations for ransom.
In short. Be gay, do crimes. Steal Marios liver and pirate him a superior robo liver.
Nintendo isn’t the only video game company that does this, they all do
Nintendo is the only company who cares about piracy of decades old games enough to go after emulation and ROM sites. It's especially dumb because it's not like there's any way to play Gamecube or Wii games legally on a modern system, while you can buy and play PS1/2/3, Xbox and 360 games. This doesn't mean the other megacorps are good, of course, but Nintendo really has it in for preservation.
One of the few games I've bought in the last couple years is Xcom 2, and I can't even get it to run anymore because 2K one day decided you need to run the game through their launcher, which.. doesn't launch.
Now I'd need to take the risk of getting a virus pirating the game that I paid for if I want to play it.
Only companies I might feel bad about pirating from are small time indie devs. :programming-communism:
The Alternative Mod Launcher is a fan made mod organiser that bypasses the 2K launcher, using it may fix your problem.
I tried following a guide to get that launcher to work with proton, but it didn't work as it couldn't find the xcom folder (that it was running from:shrug-outta-hecks:)
Yeah, I mean there's literally no way to legally purchase 99.9% of the games on Wii or Gamecube in a way that will put a single cent into Nintendo's pockets. I mean, Jesus Christ, they made the Super Mario 64/Sunshine/Galaxy Switch release limited to a few months and then pulled it from the fucking eShop! Clearly they don't want our money.
Nintendo released a firmware update for the 3ds after shutting down the eshop for it just to prevent custom firmware exploits. Nintendo is the dictionary definition of petty.
I can't imagine anything sadder than giving a shit about a corporations profit margins because you like their products
dae Elon and Nintendo are so fucking based I wish they'd make a sonic nft game together! :cryptocurrency:
The irony is that Elon is basically Doctor Robotnik except not as talented, smart, or charismatic. He doesn't even have a mustache, sad.
The mustache was removed, where did you think the hair plugs came from?
The dolphin steam thing is so wack because it turns out it was Valve who contacted Nintendo asking "hey what do you think?" and they said "we hate this, take it down or else"
It was Valve being a snake
I've come across this account before. It's REALLY hard to tell if he's doing a bit but i'm leaning on the side of doing a bit.
