I mean, we ban people that don't fit our ideology. Generally everyone wants censorship, they just want censorship by their rules and that makes sense.
The only people who believe in "free speech" are liberal ideologues who unironically believe in the free marketplace of ideas as the arbiter of truth, that if you hear everyone out equally, the ideas that are best for everyone will prevail.
But we know that's not true. We want right-wingers to be censored because their beliefs are trash and harmful, and they want the same for us.
It's always "moderation" when my side does it and "censorship" when the other side does it but we shouldn't kid ourselves. We would ban someone for being an r/vaush power poster and we would ban outspoken capitalists, and that's fine.
I see what you're saying. I think Hexbear is a little more niche than r/news. It's proudly a safe space for several groups that don't have many safe spaces. I would venture to say that moderation or censorship here is different than on a massive news platform like r/news, which presents itself as neutral.
