It's more than mild transphobia. Further down, that user actually states their full position, and spoiler alert: they're super transphobic. I reported the comment for transphobia, hopefully a mod will nuke it, but it's all polite and civil in the way it presents its bullshit case using cherrypicked data about puberty blocker side effects, so idk if they will.

Edit: Hooray, that comment got nuked! Eat shit, transphobe!

Edit 2: They banned them! https://lemmy.ml/comment/541824 :CommiePOGGERS:

Edit 3: What the fuck, someone restored the transphobic comment and unbanned the POS, this is bullshit

Edit 4: Apparently another admin overrode the decision. I am fucking FURIOUS about this right now. Would love to know which Lemmy admin is the fucking piece of garbage who did it.

Edit 5: another mod removed the comment, so yay? Someone suggested it was an effort to let the comm's mods make the decisions rather than having admins run the show, so maybe that's what happened? Hoping so!

They should be happy about this, because this is what :freeze-peach: looks like. They were free to speak by being transphobic, and the server owners were also free to speak by banning them. This is what freedom looks like chuds, if you don't like it, too bad.

Dessalines and Nutomic are usually pretty good at clamping down on bigots, but the they've been swamped with an unexpected flood of fleeing redditors right when they were in the middle of a pretty big API change. Between all the dev work and the massive surge in userbase, I'm not surprised some bigots are slipping through the cracks.

      Off topic

Also, unrelated, but I noticed that Hexbear automatically puts text in your clipboard into a block quote when you create a comment. I might have to steal this feature for the upstream.

I am aware of the concept of being transgender I am just wondering what your “polite disagreements” are with it

    [...]

"No worries. Sorry for being defensive. I’ve received death threats before so you can imagine my reticence to speak freely."

:big-honk: what did you receive these death threats for motherfucker? :honk-enraged: why were trans people sending you death threats over your opinions???

holy shit that same user responded to one of my old comments:

This space was set up by communists to be communist.

Was it? Seriously question. That wasn't made clear to me when I signed up. I never would have signed up had I read that. I suspect the intensity of your views and those of the owner of this instance differ somewhat.

Shame you didn't read it, then, asshole!

I'm half convinced that the widespread adoption of authoritarian as a blanket term was a concerted effort during the cold war to try and make the Soviets and fascists the same in public consciousness.

Nothing says "I have nothing against the community, in fact I had one in my family who committed suicide" like referring to them as "the trans".

Another comment from the same user elsewhere in the thread:

Who the hell is grinding karma? Like who gives a fuck?

If you have an account with more than like 2000 karma you’re just a loser

      :side-eye-1: :side-eye-2:

(I never tried to "grind karma" though; just have an account over a decade old, on which I used to post a lot of comments. Does it help that my top subreddit by karma is r/CTH? Or does that make it worse lol)

I'm kinda surprised that my top sub by karma is still cth but I guess it goes to show how much less I use reddit now. Transgendercirclejerk was catching up and is pretty close to overtaking it but with all this reddit business and me probably deleting my account I guess that's not happening

Pretty sure my main account on Reddit got all of its karma from Chapo and GenZedong and since they both got got, my account just looks like it bought a load of Karma lol. Also I had to make a new account to post on ShitLibsSay which annoyed me.

Some subs had it so that you couldn't post in them unless your account had a certain amount of karma. It basically just meant that fresh accounts couldn't post there, as a means to keep banned people from just making a new account and continuing to shit things up. It was good actually tbh.

  • Phish [he/him, any]

I was almost with them until the end lol. Censorship on reddit is pretty wild at this point. I agree it's weird to ban somebody from one community just because they're subscribed to another, and the mods of some major subs will just ban people who say something that doesn't fit a particularl ideology. That sucks when you're trying to say something left of center on their largest news sub and they ban you for not being lib enough. Kind of scary to think about what level of influence that provides a website like reddit.

On the other hand, it's very good to ban transphobes and delete their hateful comments. The fact that this moron thinks they can be polite and transphobic at the same time is really delusional. Fuck that asshole.

While it’s smart to ban participants of bad communities outright, it’s better to drive them out when they think they’ve settled in

I mean, we ban people that don't fit our ideology. Generally everyone wants censorship, they just want censorship by their rules and that makes sense.

The only people who believe in "free speech" are liberal ideologues who unironically believe in the free marketplace of ideas as the arbiter of truth, that if you hear everyone out equally, the ideas that are best for everyone will prevail.

But we know that's not true. We want right-wingers to be censored because their beliefs are trash and harmful, and they want the same for us.

It's always "moderation" when my side does it and "censorship" when the other side does it but we shouldn't kid ourselves. We would ban someone for being an r/vaush power poster and we would ban outspoken capitalists, and that's fine.

I see what you're saying. I think Hexbear is a little more niche than r/news. It's proudly a safe space for several groups that don't have many safe spaces. I would venture to say that moderation or censorship here is different than on a massive news platform like r/news, which presents itself as neutral.

"I mean, I also disagree with Caitlyn Jenner and Blaire White on a lot of things, but I don't really get censored."

"I didn't mean disagreeing with specific trans people."

    "Then... something like transmedicalism?"

"I didn't mean that kind of disagreement either."

"Then... what disagreement are you talking about?"

    "Oh, you know which disagreement."
