You can literally go on reddit, right now, and call Chinese people subhuman orcs that eat cats and dogs and that their government is satanic and sacrifices good christian virgins and literally nothing will happen. Why do these whiny babies need the entire internet to cater to their very specific anglo-american racist brainworms?

Reminder: these people are not serious when they say free speech to criticize governments is important. They just want to be racist. They will never apply the same standards of their “criticisms of governments” to the US. Sure they will say orange man bad, and maaayyybe cops shouldn’t murder (white) people, but they will never substantially criticize the US government.

I disagree. There will be some real turbulence and some long-term change, but I think it'll persist

So let me get this right. Federating would mean we would get crossposts of lots of racist and transphobic liberals?

If you sort by "all" (which means "all instances federated with this one") yes, but the main page would be the same except with comments from federated users (who can be banned).

So username@lemmyinstanceurl.domain will basically function like that reddit add on from years ago that identified all the chuds

for example @lemmyworld = radlib right?

lemmy.world is a mixed bag, with some genuinely good people on it (and some fucking awful ones). Someone with "beehaw" or "sopuli.xyz" is going to 100% be an insufferable radlib or a mark that got pulled in.

You kinda can, but it's only been like 3 days so give the instances a couple of months to actually develop a "local culture" like we have for the past 3 years or so (arguably even going back further than that).

Right now it's a spectrum of "how much do you hate the Lemmy devs' politics?"

It's fun to follow along with in real time tbh, I encourage you to fire up an account and jump in to see what's up.

I don’t know how this Federation business works. Does this account work over there starting next week? Do I need to make a new account to bully them right now?

If you want to bully them right now, you do need a new account. I recommend lemmy.ml if you want maximum visibility. If we do federate next week, you will be able to use your current account with any instance federated with Hexbear (and there's plenty of garbage on lemmy.ml to attack).
