Ignoring or outright despising the old source material was just collateral damage. The suits used it when they felt like it and left it in broken pieces when they felt like it.
yeah I think CBS is just looking at it as a franchise and fanbase to be squeezed for its viewership numbers and Kurtzman is the ideal person to shepherd that process, I heard he doesn't even like the franchise so he's treating it like a generic action/scifi property, and yeah there's a lot of shock moments in nutrek that don't fit the spirit of the franchise at all
