If you are new to firearms the first thing besides learning the safety rules is to learn how to clean and maintain it. A gun cleaning kit is pretty cheap and should have everything you need. Learn where to oil it. Apply the oil after cleaning and do it the night before you go to the range. It will give it time to get into all the nooks and crannies.
When you get to the range work the action a few times before loading it. And always wear eye and ear protection. Good luck and make Marx proud.
Edit: if it's rimfire like .22 LR never dry fire. It can wreck the firing pin.
