"Tricyclic antidepressants can cause you to sweat less," Wheate said, "because they act as anticholinergics, which means they basically stop your sweat glands from producing sweat. We sweat to cool down, so if you're not sweating then you can't regulate your body temperature properly and you're likely to overheat."

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, on the other hand, make you sweat more.

...

He suggested having a fan blow over you if you're taking tricyclic antidepressants, so that even though you're sweating less, the sweat you are producing is more effective at wicking away heat from your body.

For those on SSRIs, Wheate said that drinking lots to replace lost fluids is the best thing you can do. But, he said, "you don't want to just drink water — you need to drink something salty or slightly sugary because when you sweat you don't just lose the water, you lose salts and sugars, and you need to replace those."

Ketamine makes you sweat honeydew like an aphid bug-facts

You can avoid heatstroke by drinking lots of fluids, using a fan, and staying out of the heat.

HAFHASDKJFADSHF:LADSHL:JKFGASDL:KFGJHKADL:SFGJLKADS " I WAS SWEATING LIEK A PIG FORT TEN FUCKING YEARS ON DRUGS THTA DIDN'T FUCKING WORK?

    FUCK PSYCHIATRISTS

Fuckings had me in SSRIs for ten goddamn years until someone said "maybe you have bipolar". Fuck. I was so fucking embarassed about the excessive sweating.

I should clarify: bipolar is often misdiagnosed as unipolar depression bc it's hard to tell them apart until someone has a manic/hypomanic episode. As a result bipolar people are often given ssris which 1. Don't work on bipolar depression and 2. Can actually trigger mania/hypomania.

I was already too sweaty before the ssri max dosages. Now im constantly damp, constantly thirsty, but I switched to wearing all black almost all the time so that's cool

Not to be a nerd (I’m being a nerd) but Wellbutrin is a completely different kind of drug than tricyclic antidepressants or SSRI’s

Doesn’t mean that it can’t have similar side effects, it just acts through different mechanisms

Last year I stopped Wellbutrin for exactly that reason, unfortunately the things they put me on instead were way worse for many reasons so I’m back on it now. I sweat through my clothes every time I go outside. But I don’t want to kill myself so it is worth it.

I'm not on anything right now and am wary of getting on anything for fear of the side effects, and the fact that it will take at least six weeks to determine if it works and then the horrible withdrawal period if it doesn't and I quit taking it

Whenever you stop a psych med you should talk with your psych. They'll taper you off gradually which should prevent most or all of the withdrawal symptoms. It's very important not to stop ssris cold turkey as it can have some nasty lasting effects.

I'd suggest reading some of the relevant studies. The side effects can be frightening but they're generally very rare. It's much more common that they'll make you poop funny or something.

Source: i'm been on all kinds of psych meds for most of my life and experienced a range of side effects from having no libido to erectile disfunction to weird poops to salivating too much to excessive belching. It sucks, but it's mostly better than the alternative.

Humans are complex systems, while medical science is much much better than it was even 30 years ago there is still a lot to be learned. So meds can help for some things surprisingly well, but we will take a couple of decades to get closer to handling the systemic interactions with multiple layers.

I am glad you found something that works for you.

research for it being an extremely (compared to the more traditional pharmaceuticals available at least) effective treatment for a myriad of mental health conditions has become overwhelming. most places in the states you can receive it administered at a clinic now. i assume the overall popularity has gotten a big bump from that

It's insanely expensive to do that, so maybe that's why you can get it for the price of cocaine now. I don't fuck with it, everyone "knows a guy who knows the chemist and it's 100% pure shit dude"

When you do it in a clinic they hook you up to a machine that injects a measured dose intravenously over the course of 45 minutes to an hour. They also titrate the dose as you go.

I believe it's starting to get covered by more insurance companies.

Idk if it works the same way if you snort it.

Also: higly reccomend Pink Floyd's "the wall" as musical accompaniment

Haha this explains why I've been so shitty at my job this summer. As soon as i get warm I'm so sweaty and apparently just drinking water and black coffee isn't rehydrating me
