      I wouldn’t read the book but the managed decline aspect is much more expounded on where film couldn’t fit it all in. The book has this feeling that all of society is in a midlife crisis with wealthy people basically indulging in esoteric hobbies and the government slowly withdrawing from cities as people die.

      Extremely depressing and the novel ends with fascism being the only possible option during a crisis but it’s actually a good thing.

    It is June, 2025. In honor of Pride month, the Labour government has reached across the aisle and passed a sweeping medical assistance in dying law. Gender clinics are now required to suggest assisted suicide as a cure for gender dysphoria.
