The western media is starting to coalesce around a narrative of "Evil militants did it with the help of nasty old Russia!" CBC has an article entitled "Niger's pro-junta protesters attack French Embassy", with the tagline "Coup supporters denounce former colonial power, shout support for Russia". It's a standard context-free piece courtesy of Associated Press that reads like a US state department communique.

An actual revolt won’t get wall to wall news media coverage praising the brave protestors and nonstop Reddit memes.

Whatever happened to the whole self determination thing? Oh, it’s just imperialism? shocked-pikachu

This gonna be a momentous moment for West Africa to stop taking L. They better take advantage of it and not let a Libya, Somalia scenario happen again

the maoist uprising against the landlords was the largest and most comprehensive proletarian revolution in history, and led to almost totally-equal redistribution of land among the peasantry

Wow, ok, there's a reddit thread about this that I (naively) thought had potential to have a decent take on a nation standing up to it's long time colonial overlord. I was of course wrong, with comments mostly about how this is RUSSIA and how stupid it is to align with them, how they'll be robbed or murdered under this new arrangement with them, that the French Foreign Legion will be dealing with Wagner soon, and offering solutions so poor little France still can get it's precious gold and uranium. Simps for the colonizers, great job reddit-logo

Foreign Legion, but yeah. France never gave up it's African colonies, they just devolved them into satrapies, and if one steps out of line they'll hammer it back in and they don't need the US to help them.
