The Offering - fun Jewish horror movie! The demon design is pretty cool, and I did not see the ending coming.

The Vigil - another Jewish horror movie, this one is a little more formulaic. More like The Ritual, where the film serves as a vehicle for the protagonist to overcome tragedy

Hellhole - back to the Catholic imagery here. However, this movie really nails down the 'spooky religious cult' vibe. Taking place entirely in a monastary, with all scenes lit by either daylight or candles, a cop goes undercover to investigate the disappearance of 8 women. The ending is very satisfying, if predictable, but the vibes more than make up for any lacking plot. It is a horror movie, after all.

The initial 2 films I did back to back on Friday night, Hellhole was sometime last week. Watching Insomnium, I'll write about that tomorrow.

With Halloween coming up, I'm getting into the spooks and scares early! While The Offering (and to a lesser extent, the Vigil) was a blast, I really wanted to just plug Hellhole if you're into creepy religious movies. The choice to not have electricity in the main setting really worked well for it, and while I couldn't sniff out EVERY plot beat, I was glued to the screen.
